Agriculture Support in Rural Communities in Tartous
For the first time, following the fall of the Asaad Regime, the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) has launched the project, “Agriculture Support in Rural Communities in Tartous”, as part of its expansion into new areas.
This project aims to improve the livelihoods and resilience of farmers, proritising women-headed households and youth.
The project is expected to:
- Improve the resilience of farmers and their households.
- Improve the livelihoods of farmers and their households.
- Increase food availability.
- Improve the diversity of foods available.
- Strengthening agriculture-based livelihoods.
This will be done by implementing the following:
- Distributing agriculture kits and cash-for-work allowances to 700 farmers.
- Providing access to agriculture inputs, including vegetable seeds and fertilisers, tools and equipment to the farmers.
- Enabling farmers to establish and manage home gardens with home water harvesting systems.
- Providing technical training sessions to the beneficiary farmers on climate-smart regenerative farming.
- Monitoring and mentoring farmers through routine field visits, to ensure their application of new agriculture practices.
This is expected to result in:
- Increasing farmers’ access to farming inputs.
- Increasing farmers’ capacity, knowledge and skills.
- Reducing individuals’ reliance on negative coping mechanisms.
- Increasing households’ access to diverse and nutritious food.
- Sustainable agriculture production.
This project has a budget of around EUR 434,118 and is expected to directly benefit 700 individuals and their 3,500 household members indirectly over a period of six months followed by another six months for post-implementation monitoring and evaluation.
