The SRTF Expands to Tartous with First Project in Partnership with Aga Khan Foundation
Damascus – Monday, 21 July 2025 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) and the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) in Syria are pleased to announce the signing of their first financing agreement to launch a new project, “Agriculture Support in Rural Communities in Tartous.”
This initiative marks the SRTF’s first intervention in Tartous, representing a significant step in expanding its reach to underserved areas across Syria since the fall of the Assad regime.
The SRTF-funded project builds on the AKF’s 23 years of experience in Syria on agriculture and food security to enhance the livelihoods and resilience of 700 households, prioritising women-headed households and youth. Under this project, beneficiaries will be provided with training and tools for home gardening and water harvesting. The initiative aims to increase food availability, improve dietary diversity, and enhance resilience to climate shocks through regenerative farming practices and tailored mentorship, ultimately strengthening households' economic recovery and food security.
On this occasion, the CEO of the Aga Khan Foundation in Syria, Dr. Mohannad Obaido, released a statement saying: “We are thrilled to embark on this new partnership, leveraging AKF's years of expertise in Syrian agriculture and food security. This project will empower households, especially women and youth, with climate-smart regenerative farming skills and resources, enhancing their livelihoods and resilience. We are excited to see the positive impact this initiative will have on our target communities.”
On this occasion, Eng. Hani Khabbaz stated: “We are proud to announce the launch of this project, marking the first SRTF-funded initiative in Tartous and our inaugural strategic cooperation with the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) in Syria. This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to forging strategic alliances, broadening our geographic reach, and supporting communities throughout Syria. We are particularly excited to contribute to strengthening food security, enhancing resilience, and fostering social cohesion in Tartous.”
The SRTF and AKF Syria reaffirm their commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in Syria. We are dedicated to providing innovative and sustainable solutions that promote resilience, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability.
