Supporting Health Services in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor Governorates – Phase III

The SRTF launched a new Health project,Supporting Health Services in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor Governorates – Phase III to address the gaps in the health care system in Deir-ez-Zor and Ar-Raqqa governorates.

 

Through this project and in collaboration with the Fund’s partner, the SRTF aims to continue the delivery essential and critical health care services at Hajin Maternity Hospital in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate, seven primary health care centres (PHCCs) in Ar-Raqqa Governorate, and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Ar-Raqqa National Hospital.

 

This is expected to:

  • Improve the living conditions and well-being of vulnerable Internally Displace People (IDPs) and host community members.
  • Provide access to essential healthcare services in Deir-ez-Zor and Ar-Raqqa governorates.

 

This will be achieved by implementing the following:

  • Supporting the provision and operation of the following services at Hajin Maternity Hospital in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate:
    • An Emergency Department supported by two ambulances, available on a 24/7 basis.
    • Two outpatient clinics for paediatrics and gynaecology.
    • An Operating Theatre, available with expert gynaecologists, available on a 24/7 basis.
    • A natural delivery ward equipped with three delivery tables.
    • Malnutrition screening for children under five years old and pregnant and lactating women (PLW).
    • A paediatric inpatient department with a capacity of 24 beds.
    • Nine neonatal incubators with phototherapy devices and one bilirubin phototherapy unit for severe cases.
    • An inpatient surgical ward with a capacity of nine beds.
    • A High-Dependency Unit (HDU).
    • Radiology laboratory and pharmacy departments.
    • Supplying personal protective equipment, medications and other consumables.
    • Providing health awareness sessions.
  • Supporting and maintaining the provision of services at seven PHCCs in Ar-Raqqa Governorate, including:
    • Three outpatient clinics specialised in paediatrics, gynaecology and internal medicine.
    • Laboratory and pharmacy departments offering supplementary services for outpatient consultations.
    • Screening for malnutrition among children under five years old and PLW.
    • Health awareness and health education sessions delivered by trained health workers.
    • Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care.
    • Natural deliveries.
    • Putting in place a referral mechanism.
    • Supplying personal protective equipment, medications and other consumables.
  • Supporting the ICU in Ar-Raqqa National Hospital, by:
    • Providing a 10-bed capacity including two isolation beds designated for cases such as COVID-19, Tuberculosis and other communicable diseases.
    • Continuing the provision of comprehensive support for the Radiology, Laboratory and Pharmacy departments to ensure the accurate diagnosis of all critical cases, case monitoring of disease progression and treatment and the provision of essential medications and medical consumables for patients.
    • Supplying personal protective equipment, medications and other consumables.
  • The Fund’s partner will focus on strengthening sustainability through the controlled introduction of affordable user fees in selected healthcare services, contributing to the long-term viability of the supported facilities.

 

This is anticipated to:

  • Improve access to quality healthcare for residents in Deir-ez-Zor and Ar-Raqqa governorates.
  • Enhance the well-being of residents.

 

With a budget of around EUR 470,000, the project will directly benefit at least 20,328 individuals as well as at least 101,640 individuals indirectly over a period of three months, in addition to benefitting members of surrounding communities through enhanced access to essential health care services.
