An Agriculture Project Continues to Support Farmers in Tartous

Tartous – Tuesday, 24 February 2026 – A total of 700 agricultural kits were distributed to 700 farmers under the agriculture project, “Agriculture Support in Rural Communities in Tartous”, a project implemented in partnership with Aga Khan Foundation (AKF).

Each kit includes a 3,000-litre plastic tank; 200 metres of drip irrigation system equipped with a filter, hose, and accessories; two pairs of plastic boots; two pairs of gloves; 60 kilograms of compost fertiliser; a 20-litre backpack sprayer; and several seed packages. These comprise of 200 bell pepper seeds, 100 cucumber seeds, 100 eggplant seeds, 200 tomato seeds, 500 grams of broad beans, 200 grams of parsley, and 500 grams of spinach.

This distribution follows a series of training sessions provided to farmers to strengthen their knowledge, skills, and capacities in managing home gardens. Such integrated support is expected to enhance planting and harvesting practices, particularly for women and youth farmers, thereby improving livelihoods, increasing resilience, and diversifying household food production, in line with the Fund’s first initiative in Tartous.

Amal, a farmer beneficiary, told us: “The home water harvesting systems that were provided to us have helped us a lot in the farming process and have reduced financial burdens on us… We are hopeful of the upcoming harvest season…”

This project has a budget of EUR 434,118 and directly benefits 700 farmers and their 3,500 family members indirectly, for the first time in Tartous.
