Agricultural Support to Farmers in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor Governorates – Phase X

Building on the successes of its previous phases, Phase X of the “Agriculture Support to Farners in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor Governorates” was launched to ensure the continuation of agricultural support for three Farmers’ Cooperatives to increase and improve wheat production.

Through this project, the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) aims to strengthen food security and stabilise communities while ensuring long-term sustainability.

The project is expected to:

  • Enhance regional food security.
  • Improve farmers’ livelihoods.
  • Foster stability within communities.

This will be done by implementing the following:

  • Providing high-quality agricultural consumable inputs, including wheat seeds, compound fertilisers, agrochemicals and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    • An estimated 250kg of wheat and 250kg of fertilisers per hectare (HA) will be distributed to 1,118 farmers, with each farmer cultivating a maximum of 2 HA.
  • Providing two agricultural tractors, one harvester and two complete sets of ancillaries to each of the three Farmers’ Cooperatives.
    • Each set of ancillaries will include disc ploughs, cultivators, ridgers, seed drills, fertilser spreaders, boom sprayers and essential spare parts.
  • Delivering training sessions to 1,118 farmers on Climate Smart Agriculture and improved wheat production practices, including advanced and sustainable farming techniques, efficient water management and soil fertility enhancement.

This is expected to result in:

  • Cultivating around 1,250 HA of land.
  • Improving farming practices in wheat production.
  • Strengthening the capacity of the Cooperatives to provide agricultural mechanisation services to their members.
  • Increasing farmers’ awareness, knowledge, and understanding of the impact of climate change on agricultural production and the effective mitigation measures, adaptation strategies and best practices in wheat farming techniques and processes.
  • Increasing the amount of wheat produced and its availability in local markets.
  • Enhancing the quality of the harvested wheat.
  • Increasing the average wheat yield per hectare, while reducing costs on farmers.
  • Improving the living conditions and livelihoods of farmers and community members.
  • Improving food security levels within the areas of operation.

With a project of EUR 1.90 million, this project is expected to directly benefit 1,118 farmers and their 5,590 family members indirectly, over 12 months, while benefitting thousands of families by revitalizing the local economy and through improved food security levels and living conditions.
