Building Farmers’ Capacities to Improve Potato Harvest
Northeast Syria – Thursday, 24 April 2025 – The SRTF debuts training sessions to 1,000 potato farmers under Phases I and II of "Supporting Potato Farmers in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor Governorates".
These training sessions are being delivered by the SRTF field coordinators, who were trained by professional expert trainers last year.
The training will continue over the next several weeks, covering topics related to best practices in potato cultivation and Climate Smart Agriculture, including climate change, potato varieties, land and soil preparation, irrigation practices, the usage of fertilisers, pest control, potato harvest, post-harvest storage, cooling and marketing.
This aims to improve farmers’ knowledge and skills eventually expanding their potato harvest while improving its quality, enhancing food security across the two governorates and improving farmers’ livelihoods by promoting agri-businesses.
Such efforts are expected to benefit around 1,000 farmers from Phase I and Phase II, ensuring sustainability for future planting and harvest seasons, which in turn will reactivate the local economy, boost households’ resilience and stabilise communities.
