Empowering Farmers for Sustainability: SRTF's Climate-Smart Agriculture Training is Launched in Ar-Raqqa Governorate

Amman – Tuesday, 30 January 2024 –As part of its commitment to support farmers and strengthen the agriculture, food security and livelihoods sectors in Northeast Syria (NES), the SRTF has announced the initiation of training sessions for approximately 600 farmers.

The training, organized under the "Agricultural Support to Farmers in Ar-Raqqa Governorate - Phase VII," initiative aims to optimise available resources and Fund support, empowering farmers and fostering sustainability. Spanning 22 days across three targeted communities in Ar-Raqqa Governorate, these sessions provide a great opportunity for farmers to enhance their technical expertise.

Participants are expected to cover the latest in sustainable practices about a variety of topics including but not limited to; soil preparation, disease identification, crop cultivation and management, best practices in pesticides and fertilizers usage, and Integrated Pest Management Plans (IPM) alongside efficient irrigation methods. The overarching goal is to empower these farmers and amplify wheat harvest production. Through these instructive sessions, the SRTF activities channel efforts towards sustainable productivity and environmental responsibility, while ensuring a stable supply of healthy food for the individuals in the targeted communities.

The SRTF has created training materials and trained instructors to conduct these sessions, each training day is designed to accommodate approximately 30 farmers. The anticipated outcome is a substantial increase in the participants' knowledge and skills in the designated training areas by the conclusion of the training program.
