The SRTF Approves New Projects in Raqqa, Deir-ez-Zor, Rural Damascus, and Tartous to Promote Stability and Recovery
Damascus – Sunday, 20 July 2025 – The SRTF is pleased to announce the approval of a new set of projects focused on several key sectors. These include two projects in the Food Security and Agriculture sectors in the governorates of Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor, a new project in the Agriculture and Livelihoods sector in Tartous governorate, and a Multi-Sector initiative in a city within Rural Damascus.
Building on the successes of previous phases, the ninth phase of the project “Agricultural Support to Farmers in Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor” will continue providing wheat production support to reinforce regional food security and maintain stability in operational areas. This will be achieved through the provision of essential agricultural inputs and equipment, in addition to training sessions for approximately 800 farmers. The project will be implemented over 12 months, with a total budget of around EUR 1.82 million.
Furthermore, the first phase of the project “Enhancing Food Security and Supporting Livelihoods through Agriculture in Raqqa” aims to strengthen food security and sustainable livelihoods by supporting greenhouse vegetable growers. The project seeks to improve overall food availability and economic conditions within the community, with a budget of approximately EUR 630,000 over a 10-month period.
The remaining two newly approved projects mark significant milestones. The first will be implemented for the first time in Rural Damascus, while the second represents the SRTF’s first intervention in Tartous governorate since the fall of the regime, contributing to the Fund’s expansion into new areas and laying the groundwork for increased development and support.
The first of these, the “Multi-Sector Rehabilitation Initiative in Rural Damascus – Phase I”, aims to improve living conditions by rehabilitating a damaged water tank and a 1.2-hectare public park severely affected by conflict. The project focuses on restoring essential services, enhancing community well-being, and supporting reconstruction efforts by providing safe access to water and inclusive, secure recreational spaces for families and children. With an estimated 80,000 beneficiaries, the project will be implemented over nine months with a budget of approximately EUR 770,000.
The second project, “Agricultural Support in Rural Tartous”, is designed to strengthen livelihoods and resilience for 700 farmers, prioritising women-headed households and youth. This will be achieved through the provision of production inputs, tools, and equipment, as well as the introduction of knowledge and skills related to climate-smart regenerative agricultural practices. With a 12-month implementation period and a budget of around EUR 434,000, the project will enhance food availability, improve dietary diversity, and reduce reliance on negative coping strategies.
On this occasion, SRTF Director General Eng. Hani Khabbaz stated:
"I am pleased to announce the approval of four new projects addressing critical gaps in the agriculture, food security, livelihoods, and water sectors in Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor and, for the first time, in newly accessible areas of Tartous and Rural Damascus, following the fall of the former regime. These interventions reflect the Fund’s growing capacity, potential, and unwavering commitment to supporting Syrians and improving lives across the country. Following the regime’s fall in these regions, the SRTF moved swiftly to expand its reach and deliver quality support to more Syrians. These efforts aim to provide agricultural products, rehabilitate essential services, and improve living conditions in targeted areas, all while promoting sustainability and long-term stability within communities."
