Enhancing Food Security in Northern Syria: The SRTF Completes Wheat Delivery Under Phase VIII

Aleppo –  Wednesday, 16  July 2025 – The SRTF is pleased to announce the successful delivery of 6,000 metric tonnes of soft wheat under Phase VIII of its multi-phase Food Security project, “Complimentary Project for Enhancing Food Security in the North of Aleppo Governorate”, to the project's Implementing Entity. This delivery is part of the Fund's ongoing efforts to strengthen food security and support local communities.

As part of enhancing the infrastructure to ensure flour and bread reach beneficiaries, the SRTF has recently established two new bakeries in Northern Aleppo, bringing the total number of SRTF-supported bakeries operating in the region to six. This step is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at improving the quality of services provided and ensuring the availability of subsidised bread for local communities. The goal is to achieve food stability and provide essential needs for citizens, especially in resource-scarce areas.

This project is considered one of the most successful food security initiatives launched by the Fund in northern Syria since its inception. Previous phases have achieved numerous goals, including the establishment of fixed and mobile mills, construction of storage facilities for mills and bakeries, rehabilitation of bakeries, and provision of wheat and packaging sacks. Training sessions have also been provided for staff operating these facilities. As a result of these efforts, hundreds of thousands of families have benefitted on a monthly basis.

With a total budget of approximately EUR 2.15 million, the project aims to provide food assistance to around 95,000 individuals per month over the course of one year of implementation, followed by six months dedicated to close monitoring and evaluation. The project is expected to benefit thousands of people in targeted areas by enhancing strategic food reserves, revitalising local economic activity, and laying a strong foundation for sustainable food resources.
