Agricultural Support to Farmers in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor Governorates – Phase IX
Building on the successes of its previous phases, Phase IX of the “Agriculture Support to Farmers in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor Governorates” was launched to ensure the continuation of agricultural support for wheat production.
Through this project, the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) aims to enhance regional food security and foster stability within communities in the areas of operation.
The project is expected to:
- Restore and improve the production of wheat.
- Improve food security.
- Restore farmers’ livelihoods.
- Foster stability within communities in areas of operation.
This will be done by implementing the following:
- Providing high-quality agricultural inputs, including wheat seeds, fertilisers, agrochemicals and personal protective equipment.
- An estimated 250kg of wheat and 250kg of fertilisers per hectare (HA) will be distributed to 753 farmers, with each farmer cultivating a maximum of 10 HA.
- Providing two agricultural tractors and two sets of ancillaries, including disc ploughs, cultivators, ridgers, seed drills, fertiliser spreaders, boom sprayers and tipping trailers, and their spare parts, to each of the four Cooperatives.
- Providing training sessions to 753 wheat farmers on Climate Smart Agriculture, with a focus on water-saving techniques and best practices in wheat production and agriculture processes.
This is expected to result in:
- Cultivating around 2,095 HA of land.
- Improving farming practices in wheat production.
- Improving the capacity of the Cooperatives.
- Enhancing the quality of the harvested wheat.
- Increasing the average wheat yield per hectare, while reducing costs on farmers.
- Improving the living conditions and livelihoods of community members.
- Improving food security levels within the areas of operation.
This project has a budget of around EUR 1.82 million, and is expected to directly benefit 753 farmers over 12 months, while benefitting thousands of families through improved food security levels and living conditions.
