The SRTF Announces the Successful Closure of Two Interventions in Northeast Syria

Northeast Syria – Thursday, 6 April 2023 – The SRTF announced the successful completion and closure of two interventions in Northeast Syria, today.

The first intervention, "Support to Livestock Farmers in Ar-Raqqa Governorate – Phase I", aimed to support 3,813 livestock breeders across 29 Farmer Cooperatives by providing essential livestock and veterinary inputs and services to decrease costs and improve production. This included concentrated fodder and animal medication, as well as vaccinations to 81,493 animals. The intervention also established three fully equipped veterinary clinics and laboratories, as well as a mobile clinic, to provide analysis for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of animal diseases. Technical assistance training was also provided to 769 breeders and 50 local technicians, benefiting indirectly 19,870 family members. The intervention has improved the overall health of animals in the targeted areas and contributed to improved livestock-rearing practices over a period of six months, with a budget of approximately EUR 1 million.

The second intervention, "Rehabilitation of Three Water Pump Stations in Ar-Raqqa Governorate", aimed to rehabilitate three water pumping stations in the area, thereby increasing the capacity of water pumping and improving the quality of water in the region. The rehabilitation works included general civil, mechanical, and electrical works in all locations, as well as the establishment of a new pumping station and feeder pipe in one location and the recovery of the pumping capacity of the main water station’s boreholes and treated water pumping hall. The intervention has allowed more individuals greater access to cleaner water, thereby decreasing the spread of waterborne diseases and resulting in improved health conditions in the area. The intervention directly benefited 445,081 individuals over a period of eight months, with an original budget of approximately EUR 1.7 million, and a surplus amount of around EUR 206,500 was transferred back to the “Filling the Void” budget.

Overall, these interventions have contributed to improving the economic conditions and health outcomes of communities in Northeast Syria. The cooperatives are now better equipped to support their members, and breeders, veterinarians, and technicians have improved their capacity to provide services and technical assistance.
