Successful Debut: The SRTF Completes the Distribution of Premium Potato Tubers to Northeast Syria's Farming Community

Northeast Syria – Monday, 26 February 2024 – The SRTF delivered and distributed 189 MT of potato tubers to 502 potato farmers for the first time in Northeast Syria under its new Agriculture intervention ”Supporting Potato Farmers in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor Governorates”.

The high-quality potato tubers will be planted by the targeted farmers in around 100 hectares of land across 13 communities in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor governorates, this season through the use of water-efficient irrigation systems and the necessary agricultural inputs, including fertilisers, agrochemicals and personal protective equipment, which will be distributed to farmers throughout the intervention’s lifecycle.

This, in combination with the training sessions provided to farmers on Climate Smart Agriculture, is expected to advance potato production, thereby improving farmers’ living conditions through increased revenue and job opportunities, enhancing regional food security, and promoting stability within the areas of implementation.

With a total budget of around EUR 943,800, this intervention will benefit 502 farmers directly and their family members indirectly over the duration of the intervention.
