Multi-Sector Rehabilitation Initiative in Jisr-Ash-Shugur – Phase II
The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) launched Phase II of its multi-sector project, “Multi-Sector Rehabilitation Initiative in Jisr-Ash-Shugur” that aims to rehabilitate the homes of displaced families and restore access to essential services, in coordination with the Syrian Ministry of Disaster and Emergency Management and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour.
The project is expected to:
- Enable the safe and dignified returns of displaced families to their hometowns.
- Improve access to education services.
- Improve access to clean water.
- Enhance food security levels.
- Strengthen livelihoods.
- Improve community resilience.
This will be done by implementing the following activities:
- Rehabilitating 250 partially damaged homes, by:
- Repairing and/or replacing doors and windows.
- Repairing roods and conducting weatherproofing.
- Conducting wall repairs, plastering and painting.
- Rehabilitating floors, ceilings and staircases.
- Repairing electrical systems and lighting.
- Rehabilitating water and sanitation systems.
- Repairing kitchen and sanitary facilities.
- Conducting structural repairs.
- Removing debris and rehabilitating waste clearance.
- Rehabilitating three schools, by:
- Conducting structural repairs and roofing.
- Rehabilitating classrooms and administrative rooms.
- Conducting flooring, plastering and painting works.
- Repairing doors and windows.
- Conducting electrical and plumbing works.
- Conducting the necessary civil works on walls, gates and snaitation facilities.
- Equipping the schools with furniture and educational equipment.
- Providing and installing solar photovoltaic systems, to ensure the supply of reliable and sustainable energy sources.
- Rehabilitating three water stations, by:
- Rehabilitating the pumping station buildings.
- Replacing and/or installing pumps and electromechanical equipment.
- Rehabilitating tanks and storage systems.
- Repairing the main pipelines and distribution systems.
- Providing kitchen and back garden support to 250 households, by:
- Providing a support package including seeds, seedlings, fertilisers, basic gardening tools and small irrigation accessories.
- Delivering technical guidance on crop management and water-efficient practices.
- Focusing on female-headed households, households with persons with disabilities, elderly-headed households and low-income families.
- Providing short-term income support through Cash-for-Work (CfW) opportunities to 200 individuals, who will conduct works including the below, while generating around 4,000 workdays:
- Debris removal.
- Cleaning of public spaces.
- Environmental improvement works.
- Rehabilitation activities.
- Other community-prioritised works.
This is anticipated to:
- Improve community assets, infrastructure and public spaces.
- Promote small-scale household food production.
- Improve access to fresh food items, thereby, improve dietary diversity.
- Reduce food expenditure and enhance self-reliance.
- Improve access to education services.
- Improve access to water for returnees and host community members.
- Promote the use of environmentally friendly sources of energy.
- Enable voluntary and dignified returns of families, through the rehabilitating and restoration of minimum safe and functional living conditions, thereby, facilitating the reintegration of families into their communities of origin.
- Improve access to water, sanitation and electricity.
- Restore and improve living conditions.
- Revitalise the local economy.
- Strengthen community resilience and recovery conditions.
This project has a budget of EUR 1.96 million and is expected to benefit at least 2,195 individuals through home rehabilitation, CfW activities and the rehabilitation of educational facilities, in addition to 250 households through kitchen and backyard gardening support and around 3,000 to 5,000 individuals through improved water services.
