The SRTF Concludes Project Supporting Potato Farmers in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor

Damascus - Monday, 6 April 2026 - The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) is pleased to announce the successful closure of the project “Supporting Potato Farmers in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor Governorates”, aimed at strengthening agricultural livelihoods and enhancing food security in northeast Syria.

The project supported 502 farmers across agricultural cooperatives in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor governorates. Farmers received high-quality potato seed tubers, fertilisers, agrochemicals, personal protective equipment (PPE) kits, and post-harvest materials, alongside targeted training on modern potato cultivation and climate-smart agriculture practices.

Through the intervention, farmers cultivated approximately 106 hectares, producing an estimated 3,247 metric tonnes of potatoes, contributing to improved incomes and increased local food availability.

Commenting on the project’s closure, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, Director General of the SRTF, stated: “Supporting farmers is central to strengthening resilience and economic recovery. This project enabled communities to restore agricultural production, improve livelihoods, and enhance local food security through practical, sustainable support.”

The project reflects the SRTF’s continued commitment to supporting early recovery and restoring essential economic sectors across Syria.
