Historic Moment: The SRTF Holds Its First Board Meetings in Damascus

Damascus – Tuesday, 28 October 2025 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) convened the 41st Management Committee (MC) meeting and the 25th Steering Board (SB) meeting for the first time in Damascus, Syria, this week. The meetings brought together members and donor countries, along with representatives from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on behalf of the Syrian Government, marking a historic milestone in the Fund’s journey.

During the meetings, participants were briefed on the latest developments on the ground in Syria, the Fund’s ongoing operations, the expansion of project locations, and the growing impact of SRTF-supported interventions on communities across the country. The SB also reviewed key updates and discussed strategic priorities for the Fund’s future programming.

The MC approved four new projects with a total budget of approximately EUR 5 million. These include two health projects aimed at sustaining hospitals, clinics, and ambulance services in Aleppo, and expanding healthcare provision in Deir-ez-Zor, together benefitting nearly 3.2 million people directly and indirectly.

In Darayya, a new phase under the SRTF’s area-based approach will restore and operate the city’s main water supply system, ensuring safe and reliable access for 150,000 residents. Additionally, the Fund approved the reactivation of an Education project to rehabilitate six schools in Dara’a, benefitting more than 2,000 students, teachers, and their surrounding communities.

Commenting on the outcomes, Eng. Hani Khabbaz said: Holding the SRTF’s Boards’ meetings in Damascus for the first time marks a truly historic moment in the Fund’s journey. This milestone was made possible thanks to the liberation of Syria and the improved conditions since then, which paved the way for greater engagement opportunities across Syria.

We deeply value the opportunity to coordinate closely with the Syrian Government to ensure that the SRTF continues to play a meaningful role in supporting stability, recovery and contributing to the broader reconstruction efforts.

Our commitment remains steadfast to deliver tangible, sustainable improvements to the lives of Syrian people through projects that restore essential services and rebuild livelihoods.
