The SRTF Announces the Successful Completion of Three Projects Supporting Agriculture, Shelter Rehabilitation and Livelihoods in Northeast Syria
Damascus - Tuesday, 23 September 2025 - The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) is pleased to announce the successful completion of three projects in Northeast Syria: two in support of agriculture and one focused on livelihoods.
Under “Agricultural Support to Farmers in Ar-Raqqa Governorate – Phase V”, 1,075 farmers across six cooperatives harvested 12,864 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat from 3,180 hectares (HA), achieving an average yield of 4.05 MT/HA. The provision of high-quality seeds, fertilisers, agrochemicals, equipment, and technical training, particularly for women staff, helped farmers enhance productivity, increase income, and strengthen cooperative capacities. With a budget of EUR 4.46 million, the project directly benefitted 1,093 individuals.
Phase VIII of “Agricultural Support to Farmers in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor” enabled 1,127 farmers to cultivate 2,139 hectares, producing 8,710 MT of wheat. With a budget of EUR 1.94 million, the project promoted Climate-Smart Agriculture, modern irrigation techniques, and efficient water management, thereby, supporting livelihoods, improving food security, and contributing to the local economy.
The pioneering livelihoods intervention, “Enhancing Shelter and Livelihoods in Deir-ez-Zor”, successfully rehabilitated 1,000 homes, provided agricultural and hydroponic kits to 850 households, and created Cash-for-Work opportunities for 2,007 community members, including returnees from Al-Hol Camp. With a budget of EUR 1.86 million, the project directly benefitted 13,913 people and indirectly improved the lives of more than 56,000 residents through better shelter, enhanced food security, and increased self-sufficiency.
SRTF Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz stated: “We are proud of these achievements, which highlight the tangible impact of our work in agriculture, shelter rehabilitation, and livelihoods. By introducing modern techniques and innovative interventions, families, including those returned from Al Hol Camp, can secure food, raise incomes and rebuild their communities.
Building on the success of the Livelihoods project, we look forward to the results of Phase II, launched earlier this year, as we continue to support returnees, improve living conditions, and strengthen social cohesion in the region. We remain deeply grateful to our donors and partners for their continued support, particularly in light of the evolving challenges on the ground in Syria.”
