The SRTF Completes Two High-Impact Health Interventions Strengthening Essential Healthcare Delivery in Deir-ez-Zor
Deir-ez-Zor - Sunday, 03 May 2026 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) has successfully completed two complementary health interventions in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate, implemented by MEHAD, delivering cost-effective, lifesaving healthcare services while reinforcing the resilience and operational capacity of local health systems in targeted areas.
The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) has successfully completed two complementary health interventions in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate, implemented by MEHAD, delivering cost-effective, lifesaving healthcare services while reinforcing the resilience and operational capacity of local health systems in targeted areas.
Designed to maximise impact through targeted operational support rather than infrastructure-heavy investments, the interventions ensured continuity of critical services for vulnerable populations in areas facing prolonged healthcare disruption.
Through the Dialysis Services Support Project – Phase III, the SRTF safeguarded access to essential renal care at the Abu Hamam and Kisreh dialysis units, facilities serving large catchment populations with limited access to specialised treatment. The project achieved 6,892 dialysis sessions delivered to 178 chronic kidney disease patients; continuous provision of medicines, consumables, and operational inputs prevented service interruption; strengthened medical supply chains and workforce capacity, ensuring reliable service delivery; indirect benefits reached approximately 890 household members, with services accessible to a catchment population exceeding 229,000 people.
In parallel, the "Provision of Primary Health Care Services in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate – Phase V" project strengthened frontline healthcare delivery across Hreijiyeh, Sosa, and surrounding communities. The project delivered 174,738 medical consultations; services to 148,418 direct patients through fixed facilities and mobile teams; and delivered WHO-standard treatment for non-communicable diseases across 15 health facilities, ensuring uninterrupted care for patients with hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, asthma, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
The project combined fixed healthcare facilities with mobile primary healthcare teams, significantly reducing access barriers for remote and underserved populations while optimising resource utilisation and outreach coverage.
Eng. Hani Khabbaz, Director General of the SRTF, stated: “These interventions reflect the SRTF’s commitment to building healthcare support systems that are becoming increasingly reliable and truly felt by patients and communities. By working through experienced partners and reinforcing existing local services, we are helping ensure that essential care - from lifesaving dialysis to primary healthcare - remains accessible, dependable, and responsive to people’s needs. Strengthening these systems is fundamental to restoring trust, improving health outcomes, and supporting sustainable recovery in Deir-ez-Zor.”
Dr. Ziad Alissa, President of MEHAD stated: “Our continued partnership with the SRTF only reiterates the positive impact our projects have had on communities in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate. We are proud to have reached such many patients in these two facilities, aiming to address the gaps in such a critical sector, and look forward to benefitting many more through future collaborations during these difficult times.”
