Olive Farmers Begin Harvest Season Under SRTF’s “Supporting Olive Farmers in Northern Aleppo” Project
Aleppo – Tuesday, 4 November 2025 – A total of 1,000 olive farmers benefitting from the SRTF’s agriculture project, “Supporting Olive Farmers in Northern Aleppo,” have begun harvesting their olive trees this season. Farmers are using the harvesting, picking, and pruning kits previously distributed by the Fund to facilitate the process and enhance the storage and quality of their crops.
This milestone follows several key interventions under the project, including the distribution of foliar fertilisers, which have improved soil fertility, crop productivity, and overall olive quality. Additionally, the installation of mobile offices, plastic greenhouses, and nurseries has been completed, strengthening the local agricultural infrastructure and providing sustained support for the farmers’ operations.
Expressing his gratitude, Kheireldeen, one of the project’s beneficiaries, shared: “I received baskets [to collect the olives in], a pruning kit, a ladder and containers to store oil in, which helped reduce the financial burdens on me. They also provided me with pesticides which I used to spray the pests that were infesting my crop and thank God I got rid of them. This benefitted me a great deal as my crop is healthy and of better quality now. The [SRTF’s] teams were very helpful. God bless you all.”
Speaking on the project’s progress, SRTF Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, stated: “The SRTF remains steadfast in supporting Syrian farmers to harvest and produce essential food commodities. By reducing their financial costs, improving their income, and strengthening local food supply chains, we aim to empower communities toward self-sufficiency and long-term sustainability.”
Through these targeted agricultural interventions, the project is contributing to improved environmental conditions, increased productivity, and strengthened resilience among olive farmers. By boosting local olive production, the initiative supports higher household incomes, enhanced food security, and the revival of the local economy.
With a budget of approximately EUR 1.89 million, the project is set to benefit 1,000 farmers directly and an estimated 5,000 family members indirectly over its 18-month duration.
