A Multi-Sectoral Initiative Announces Major Progress in Northeast Syria
Damascus – Thursday, 18 September 2025 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) has announced significant progress in its initiative, “Provision of Sustainable Energy and Clean Water Systems in Northeast Syria (NES)” aimed at improving essential services in schools and health facilities across Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor governorates.
To date, approximately 60% of the planned installations have been completed. This includes the deployment of solar energy systems with capacities of 8 kilowatts (kW), 15 kW, and 50 kW across 23 schools, four health centres, and two hospitals. In parallel, reverse osmosis (RO) water purification systems with capacities of 100 litres per hour and 200 litres per hour have been installed in 28 schools, health facilities, and two technical training centres.
To ensure long-term sustainability, the SRTF has also supplied spare parts to 29 schools, health centres, and hospitals, while conducting specialised training sessions for facility staff on the operation and maintenance of the new systems.
Some of the health facilities benefitting from these installations are also supported by the SRTF under other projects. This combined support is expected to greatly enhance patients’ access to efficient, high-quality, and sustainable health services.
Upon completion, the initiative will provide schools and health facilities with reliable access to clean water and renewable electricity, strengthening service delivery, improving operational efficiency, and increasing resilience. The project is projected to directly benefit around 44,890 individuals and indirectly serve more than one million people across the region.
