An SRTF Established Solar Energy System Energises Water Pumping Stations in Northern Aleppo

Türkiye – Sunday, 6 August 2023 – Today, the SRTF announced the completion of construction activities related to a renewable solar energy system, marking the commencement of its operational phase under the Electricity project: "Sustainable Solar Energy Supply Systems for Water Pumping Stations in Rural Areas of North Aleppo – Phase I".

These construction efforts included the set-up of solar power plants, which are now operational and actively delivering electrical energy to seven water pumping stations. This project ensures a consistent electricity supply to the water pumping stations in a city situated in Northern Aleppo.

The overall aim of the project is to restore power generation in the area, through the installation of a sustainable and renewable solar energy system, providing around 6000Kwh of electric energy per day to seven water pumping stations, ensuring a more affordable, reliable, and environmentally friendly source of electricity in the targeted area.

The expected outcomes of this project include reduced running costs and improved reliability of the electrical supply for pumping stations, positive environmental impact with a zero-carbon dioxide emission system and strengthened resilience and improved living conditions of communities suffering from water shortages.

This project has a budget of EUR 1.8 million and is expected to directly benefit around 165,000 individuals including internally displaced people over a period of 18 months, including six months for post-implementation monitoring and evaluation. An additional 85,000 individuals in surrounding communities will benefit indirectly as well.
