The SRTF Trustee, Donors and Stakeholders Witness the Impact of Funded Recovery Projects in Darayya First-hand

Darayya - Sunday, 8 November 2026 - On the sidelines of the Syria Recovery Trust Fund's (SRTF) 45th Management Committee (MC) and 27th Steering Board (SB) meetings, held in Damascus last week, a delegation comprising representatives of the Darayya City Council, SRTF Trustee, KfW, donor members; including Japan and Türkiye, and the Management Unit (MU), conducted a field visit to Little Village Park and two locations hosting SRTF-funded water projects in Darayya, Rural Damascus.

The visit provided an opportunity for delegation members to observe the progress and results of the SRTF's interventions on the ground and gain first-hand insight regarding the impact of contribution to rehabilitating community infrastructure and improving living conditions.

The delegation first visited Little Village Park, rehabilitated under the SRTF's "Multi-Sector Rehabilitation Initiative in Rural Damascus – Phase I". The visit included a tour of the restored public park, featuring improved green spaces, pathways, lighting and recreational facilities, as well as rehabilitated water infrastructure, including a well, an elevated water tank and a containerised water treatment plant supported by solar energy. The intervention also included road repairs and rehabilitation of the electrical transformer room, contributing to improved essential services and revitalising a shared community space.

The delegation also visited the facilities rehabilitated under the SRTF's second water intervention, "Rehabilitation of the Water Supply System in Darayya, Rural Damascus", implemented in cooperation with the Eastern Mediterranean Institute (EMI). With a budget of EUR 1.98 million, the project aims to restore and strengthen Darayya's main water supply system through the rehabilitation of seven wells, the main water reservoir, and the establishment of a central reverse osmosis water treatment plant equipped with a solar power system.

Expected to directly benefit approximately 150,000 residents, the intervention seeks to improve the availability and quality of drinking water, enhance the reliability of water services and reduce households' dependence on costly water trucking. The integration of solar energy will also contribute to more sustainable and energy-efficient water operations.

The visit reaffirmed the importance of continued cooperation between the SRTF, its donors, the Syrian Government, local authorities, implementing partners and other stakeholders in advancing recovery priorities and delivering sustainable improvements for communities across Syria. The guests commended these projects for their contribution to restoring essential water services and improving living conditions for local residents.
