Support to Health Services in Dar'a Governorate (Reactivation)

Since the suspension of project activities in 2018, health service delivery in Dar’a Governorate has continued to face significant challenges. And years of conflict, damage to health infrastructure, shortages of equipment and supplies, and limited financial support have severely weakened the health system’s leaving it unable to meet the needs of the population.

Following the recent reactivation of the project after several years of suspension, renewed support will focus on strengthening health care infrastructure and restoring critical medical services in the governorate. The reactivation includes the completion of previously planned interventions at Tafas Hospital, particularly the maintenance and operationalisation of the CT Scan unit, which had remained non-functional due to the interruption of project activities.

Under the reactivated phase, an additional EUR 1.10 million has been allocated to complete rehabilitation works at Tafas Hospital, establish an oxygen production station, supply and install a photovoltaic system to ensure uninterrupted operation of the CT Scan unit, and provide essential medical and laboratory equipment. The project will also deliver targeted training to hospital staff on the use and maintenance of equipment, strengthen the Health Information System, and implement a robust monitoring framework to ensure quality, accountability, and sustainability of services.

The intervention is expected to significantly improve diagnostic capabilities, strengthen critical care services, enhance neonatal and laboratory care, and build the technical capacity of health care personnel. Over a 12-month implementation period, including preparation and post-implementation monitoring and evaluation, the project is expected to directly benefit approximately 12,420 patients per month, while contributing to improved access to quality health care services for communities across Dar’a Governorate.
