The SRTF Reactivates a Health Project in Dar’a Governorate

Damascus – Tuesday, 09 June 2026 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF), in coordination with the Syrian Ministry of Health, has approved the reactivation of the project “Support to Health Services in Dar’a Governorate” aimed at restoring critical medical capacity and strengthening access to essential healthcare services at Tafas Hospital in Dar’a Governorate.

The project will be implemented by the Dar’a Health Directorate, the public authority responsible for delivering healthcare services across the governorate.

The reactivated intervention builds on earlier achievements implemented prior to the project’s suspension in summer 2018 and responds to updated needs identified through the recent field assessments.

Originally launched to address the severe disruption of health services during the Syrian revolution, the project successfully established key infrastructure and medical systems, including an operational CT-Scan unit at Tafas Hospital. The reactivation aims to consolidate these gains and restore the hospital’s functionality to better serve the Syrian people in the area.

As part of the reactivation, the SRTF will support Tafas Hospital through a comprehensive package of interventions designed to improve diagnostic capacity, strengthen emergency and intensive care services, and enhance institutional sustainability.

Key activities include; complete CT scan maintenance and operational support;  providing essential medical and lab equipment; eestablishing an oxygen production station for ICU and emergency use; installing a PV system for reliable power supply; rehabilitating and expanding hospital facilities; training staff (clinical, technical, and HIS); and strengthening, monitoring and evaluation systems.

The reactivation of this project reflects the strength of our cooperation with the health authorities and our shared commitment to restoring sustainable healthcare services for the people of Dar’a. Through this effort, the SRTF reaffirms its commitment to restoring essential public services, strengthening resilient health systems, and improving living conditions for communities affected by years of crisis, while enabling institutions to deliver reliable, quality healthcare where it is needed most.” said the SRTF Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz.

The project is expected to improve diagnostics, expand surgical, intensive care, neonatal, and laboratory services, and strengthen staff capacity. It has been reactivated with an additional EUR 1.1 million, bringing the total budget to over EUR 2 million. It is estimated that approximately 12,420 people per month in Dar’a Governorate will directly benefit over an additional 12 months.
