A Water Rehabilitation Project Commences Activities to Restore Safe and Reliable Drinking Water for Darayya Residents
Damascus – Thursday, 18 June 2026 – The SRTF, in collaboration with the Implementing Entity, has commenced implementation of Phase I of its Water project, “Rehabilitation of the Water Supply System in Darayya, Rural Damascus”, aimed at restoring access to safe and reliable drinking water for approximately 150,000 residents.
Initial activities include the rehabilitation of the electromechanical system for five wells, while equipping a sixth well with a complete electromechanical system including a water pump, sensors, a control system and a power supply system. Such works come alongside preparatory works and the maintenance of the underground reservoir, repairing all internal cracks and damages -critical steps toward restoring a water system that many families have long depended on under difficult and costly conditions.
For households in Darayya, improved water access means more than infrastructure repair; it means reduced reliance on expensive water trucking, greater daily stability and improved health and living conditions.
The broader project will rehabilitate the main water supply system and introduce sustainable solutions, including solar-powered pumping and water treatment systems, to ensure long-term reliability and safety.
The Director General of the SRTF, Hani Khabbaz, said, "Access to safe and reliable water is a fundamental service that underpins public health, dignity, and community resilience. Through this project, we are helping restore a critical lifeline for the people of Darayya while investing in sustainable solutions that will serve generations to come."
