Commencement of Activities in AsSweida Brings Students One Step Closer to Returning to their Classrooms
As-Sweida – Wednesday, 17 June 2026 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) is happy to announce the launch of project activities in AsSweida aimed at restoring essential services and supporting the conditions for safe and dignified returns. The project is implemented in coordination with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).
Initial activities are now underway at a heavily damaged school, where debris removal and structural assessments are being carried out as a first step toward rehabilitation. The works aim to restore safe access to education for returning and resident children who have faced prolonged disruption due to damaged infrastructure.
The school’s intervention forms part of a wider area-based recovery approach that also includes the rehabilitation of 100 housing units and the upgrading of a critical water well. Together, these interventions are designed to address interconnected gaps in shelter, water, sanitation, and education, strengthening community resilience and improving basic living conditions.
Once completed, the project is expected to directly benefit approximately 3,382 individuals, while indirectly supporting thousands more across surrounding communities. Over its eight-month implementation period, the initiative will contribute to restoring access to safe housing, reliable water supply, and functional education infrastructure.
The EUR 489,115 project reflects an integrated recovery model that prioritises essential services as a foundation for sustainable returns and long-term stability in the area.
