The SRTF Completes Phase III of a Primary Health Care Project in Deir-ez-Zor
Deir-ez-Zor - Sunday, 25 January 2026 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) announced the successful completion and closure of its health project, “Primary Health Care for Conflict-Affected Populations in Deir-ez-Zor – Phase III”.
The project ensured the continued delivery of essential primary healthcare services across Deir-ez-Zor Governorate, reaching 47,967 patients through a wide range of interventions. Services provided included medical consultations for adults, infants, and children; emergency care and ambulance transportation; diagnostic, laboratory, and radiology services; malnutrition screening; mental health support; health awareness sessions; and the provision of essential medical equipment and consumables. In addition, healthcare workers received targeted capacity-building sessions to support the efficient and high-quality delivery of services.
These interventions significantly improved community access to healthcare services and strengthened overall health outcomes. The project enhanced early detection, referral, and management of malnutrition cases among children under five and pregnant and lactating women; increased community health awareness and positive health-seeking behaviour; improved the management of mental health conditions; enabled safer and more efficient patient flow through newly established triage systems; and reduced morbidity and mortality through timely emergency referrals and round-the-clock ambulance services.
Reflecting on the project’s impact, one female patient stated: “Obtaining medical services near my place of residence makes me feel safe and dignified.”
A male patient added: “The presence of an ambulance department 24 hours a day, specialised doctors who conduct medical examinations and x-rays, and the availability of a large number of medical services help people live in this area safely.”
Commenting on the project’s achievements, SRTF Director General Eng. Hani Khabbaz said: “We are pleased to have achieved such impactful results in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate, where access to essential healthcare services remains critically needed. Our teams have worked tirelessly to ensure the effective delivery of high-quality services and will continue these efforts under Phase IV of the project. Through this next phase, we aim to sustain and further improve health conditions and overall well-being for communities across the area. The Fund remains committed to expanding its health sector interventions, particularly in underserved and vulnerable communities.”
With a total budget of approximately EUR 996,505, the project directly benefitted 47,967 individuals and indirectly supported 239,835 family members. In addition, an estimated 719,000 people benefitted through improved living conditions and well-being, enhanced resilience of local health facilities, strengthened health system preparedness and response, and sustained access to essential healthcare services.
