The SRTF and Action for Humanity Sign Agreement to Rehabilitate Six Schools in Dar’a

Damascus – Thursday, 20 November 2025 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) and Action for Humanity (AFH) announced the signing of a new financing agreement to rehabilitate six (6) schools in Dar’a Governorate, today, marking a significant milestone in their shared commitment to strengthening access to safe, quality education in southern Syria.

The agreement was signed by SRTF Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, and Dr. Abdulkarim Ekzayez, MD, PhD, the Whole of Syria Country Director at AFH.

Building on the SRTF’s ongoing support to the education sector, this initiative aims to improve learning environments for children in underserved communities by restoring the educational infrastructure, enhancing safety standards, and creating spaces conducive to academic and psychosocial wellbeing.

Under the terms of the agreement, the project will cover comprehensive rehabilitation works for the targeted six schools. These include structural repairs, classroom refurbishment, improvement of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities, the provision of essential school furniture, and upgrades to ensure accessibility and safety for all students, including those with disabilities.

The project is expected to directly benefit 2,296 students and 60 teaching and administrative staff, by enabling safer and more inclusive learning spaces. In addition, 11,780 family members will benefit indirectly through improved educational stability for their children. The wider community—an estimated 111,700 residents—will also experience positive impacts through strengthened social cohesion and the long-term sustainability of rehabilitated educational facilities.

Dr. Abdulkarim Ekzayez stated: “We are proud to partner with the SRTF on this important education intervention in Dar’a. Ensuring that children have safe spaces to learn is a critical step toward supporting communities affected by conflict. This agreement reflects our shared belief that investing in education today lays the foundation for a more stable and resilient tomorrow.”

Commenting on the signing, SRTF Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, said: “This new initiative underscores our commitment to improving access to quality education across Syria. By rehabilitating these schools, we are not only enhancing learning conditions for thousands of children but also supporting the recovery and resilience of entire communities in Dar’a. We value our collaboration with Action for Humanity and look forward to the positive impact it will bring.”
