The SRTF Strengthens Health Sector in Deir-ez-Zor Through the Rehabilitation of A Dialysis Unit and Expanded Primary Health Care Support

Deir-ez-Zor – Monday, 8 September 2025 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) is proud to announce major progress in improving access to essential health services in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate through the successful implementation of two key projects: “Comprehensive Support Initiative for Two Dialysis Units through Operational and Medical Assistance in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate – Phase III” and “Provision of Primary Health Care Services in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate – Phase IV.”

As part of these initiatives, the SRTF completed the rehabilitation of one dialysis unit, carrying out extensive civil and electrical works including flooring, tiling, painting, installing doors and windows, upgrading lighting and water systems, adding wash basins, restrooms, and drainage, as well as equipping the unit with an electricity board and plug switches. The reactivation of this unit ensures uninterrupted dialysis services for 121 patients and provides indirect benefits to their 605 family members.

At the same time, the SRTF strengthened primary health care services by delivering 28 non-communicable disease (NCD) kits to 14 facilities, along with 94 medications, 58 medical consumables, and four pieces of furniture to two primary health care clinics and one mobile clinic, bringing direct support to over 110,000 patients and indirect benefits to more than 410,000 individuals across Deir-ez-Zor.

Dr. Azad, Head of the Implementing Partner in Northeast Syria, emphasised the impact of these efforts:

“The presence of such centres is crucial as they provide services that cannot be replaced. They ease the burden on patients whose health conditions often prevent them from travelling long distances. These centres meet international standards and are fully equipped. We now need to establish more in other areas to expand free-of-charge services, including transportation for patients to and from the centres.”

Hammoud, a dialysis patient, also expressed his gratitude:

“Thank God, the staff here is excellent. The hospital is clean, the treatment and medication are free, and they take good care of us. We feel comfortable during dialysis, and we do not have to worry about costs. God bless them.”

These achievements reflect only part of the SRTF’s ongoing efforts across Northeast Syria, including Ar-Raqqa Governorate, to strengthen health systems, fill critical gaps, and ensure sustainable access to essential services for both host communities and internally displaced people.
