The SRTF Approves Phase III of a Food Security Project in the North of Aleppo Governorate.

Amman- Thursday, 26th March 2020 – The SRTF’s management committee (MC) approved the project “Complementary project for Enhancing Food Security in the North of Aleppo Governorate- Phase III” at a total budget of EUR 4.4 million.

Phase III aims to replenish of soft wheat stocks kept by the Implementing Entity (IE) in order to mitigate and avoid shortage of supplies of flour supplied to bakeries in the area for bread production and maintain its affordable prices. Therefore it will ensure procurement of 15,000 MT of soft wheat, supply and construction one shed for housing a 15 mt / day flour mill which was  supplied under Phase II of the same project,  provide transportation and handling of inputs from zero point to the stores or warehouses of the IE inside Syria, as well as,  transportation and handling of inputs to milling locations.

By increasing the availability of bread and stabilizing its prices, particularly in areas of high concentration of IDPs, it is expected that this project will have a significant impact on a larger number of beneficiaries, women and children included.  It will also sustain the availability of flour at the private sector and IE bakeries. In terms of beneficiaries, is estimated that 400,000 beneficiaries / month for a period of six months will benefit from the availability of bread at affordable prices, and around 1000- 2500 persons employed in related fields (e.g., transportation, milling, distribution, bakeries).

The project is set to be completed within a timeframe of 12 months.
