The SRTF Inaugurates a New Flour Mill in North Aleppo

Türkiye – Thursday, 6th February  2020 - The SRTF Management Unit (MU) announced the inauguration a new flour mill today under its: “Complementary Project for Enhancing Food Security in Aleppo Governorate” after the successful completion of all planned civil works this month. The new mill, which was delivered to the implementing entity (IE) of the project in Oct 2019 is now installed and fully operational with a milling production capacity of up to 50 MT per day.

Parallel to the launch activities, and as part of the same project, the SRTF is currently finalizing construction works of a new automatic bakery which is expected to be completed and operational within weeks. Furthermore, the implementing entity (IE) has been provided with trucks for bread distribution to help maintain bread availability and stabilize its prices in the targeted areas. For this project, the main objectives is to address the problem of food insecurity in the north of Aleppo Governorate by ensuring the continued provision of flour to local bakeries.

At a total cost of EUR 5.1 million, the project is expected to increase the availability of bread at lower and more affordable prices to the direct benefit of more than 90,000 people living in the targeted communities. Indirectly, the entire population of the targeted areas, over 300,000 people, is expected to benefit from boosting the local economy and from the creation of job opportunities as a result of this project.
