A Health Project Completes Rehabilitation Works in Deir-ez-Zor National Hospital

Deir-ez-Zor – Tuesday, 3 November 2026 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) is pleased to announce the completion of rehabilitation works at Deir-ez-Zor National Hospital under its health project, “Restoration of Essential Hospital Services and Maternal & Child Health Care in Deir-ez-Zor City”, implemented in collaboration with Action for Humanity (AFH).

The works covered the hospital’s Outpatient Clinics and General Surgery departments. In the Outpatient Clinics, the works included cleaning and preparing the facilities, installing lighting, suspended ceilings and air-conditioning units, and providing and installing furniture and medical equipment.

In the General Surgery department, the works included repairing and upgrading walls, floors, doors and windows, improving lighting and electrical systems, and rehabilitating water, sanitation and other mechanical systems. Medical equipment was also delivered and installed, and patient wards, care areas and supporting spaces were painted, cleaned and prepared for use. Moreover, inspections and quality assurance activities were also conducted on both departments.

These efforts will improve both departments’ functionalities, safety and capacity for the delivery of inpatient surgical services and provision of outpatient services, improving the quality of surgical care, patient safety and the overall capacity of the hospital to provide essential surgical and post-operative services to patients, thereby, ensuring access to high-quality health care.

Additionally, engineering studies for Deir-ez-Zor Maternity and Paediatric Hospital were completed and the Fund is currently discussing next steps with AFH.

With a budget of around EUR 1.30 million, this project is expected to benefit at least 52,200 individuals directly and around 261,000 individuals indirectly over a period of nine months in addition to six months for post implementation monitoring and evaluation. This initiative highlights the Fund’s commitment to contributing to improving access to health care services in Deir-ez-Zor, an area which has been deprived of such a key element within society, through strengthened service quality and empowered health care providers, ensuring long-term sustainability within communities.
