An Agriculture Project in Ar-Raqqa Completes All Activities Successfully

Ar-Raqqa – Wednesday, 16 September 2026 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) has successfully completed all activities under its project, “Enhancing Food Security and Agri-Livelihoods in Ar-Raqqa – Phase I”, supporting 100 vegetable farmers to strengthen agricultural production, improve their livelihoods and contribute to local food security.

Through this project, 100 greenhouse sets, along with the necessary agricultural equipment and inputs, were delivered and installed for participating farmers. The project also provided Climate Smart Agriculture training, complemented by continuous technical supervision and advisory follow-up through mentorship visits conducted by the Implementing Partner’s teams throughout the project period.

As a result, the farmers harvested approximately 377 metric tonnes  (MT) of vegetables, including cucumbers, zucchinis, tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, green beans and okra.

The produce contributes to household food consumption while enabling farmers to generate income through the sale of crops in local markets. In parallel, the training and ongoing technical support helped reinforce good agricultural practices and strengthen farmers’ capacity to improve production and respond to agricultural challenges.

The SRTF Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, stated:

“Through this project, farmers have strengthened their knowledge, skills, and capacity to increase the quantity and quality of their agricultural production. By supporting greenhouse cultivation and promoting climate-smart agricultural practices, the project has also contributed to greater availability and diversity of locally produced food for households and local markets.

These achievements are an important contribution to strengthening food security at both household and community levels, while improving farmers’ livelihoods and resilience. Supporting farmers to build more productive and sustainable agricultural livelihoods is essential to strengthening the resilience and longer-term stability of communities in Ar-Raqqa.”

With a budget of approximately EUR 630,000, the 10-month project directly benefited 100 farmers, with an additional 500 family members benefiting indirectly. Beyond the direct beneficiaries, increased local agricultural production is expected to contribute to improved food availability and economic activity within the wider community.
