The SRTF Strengthens the Continuity of Healthcare Services in Ar-Raqqa

Damascus – Sunday, 16 August 2026 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) announced the approval of a new project to ensure the continuity of providing basic healthcare services and specialised medical care to approximately 121,000 direct beneficiaries, with a focus on the most vulnerable groups.

The project, "Support to Health Facilities in Ar-Raqqa", aims to sustain the operation of seven primary healthcare centres, in addition to the intensive care unit at Ar-Raqqa National Hospital and the neonatal intensive care unit at the Children’s Hospital within the Ar-Raqqa National Hospital complex. The project also includes the provision of essential medicines, medical supplies, and equipment; improvement of laboratory, pharmacy, and radiology services; support for ambulance and medical referral services; as well as limited maintenance and rehabilitation works and training of health staff.

Eng. Hani Khabbaz, SRTF Director General, stated: “This new project represents an important step in our ongoing commitment to restoring essential health services in Ar-Raqqa. The partnership and close coordination with the Government of Syria and the Ar-Raqqa Health Directorate are essential to ensuring that support is effectively aligned with local health priorities and contributes to the sustainability of the health system. The project will help ensure that more than 121,000 people - particularly the most vulnerable - continue to receive the care they need, while strengthening the foundations for long-term recovery and resilience in the governorate.”

In addition to the direct beneficiaries, the project’s impact, with a budget of EUR 1.07 million, is expected to extend to approximately 867,000 of their family members during the implementation period, thereby, ensuring the long-term continuity of basic and specialised health services, strengthening the local health system’s capacity for a sustainable response to needs, improving health indicators (particularly maternal and child care and intensive care), building the capacities of medical staff, reducing reliance on emergency interventions, and supporting the path of health recovery and stability in Ar-Raqqa Governorate.
