The SRTF Achieves Major Milestone in Darayya Water Project
Damascus – Sunday, 9 August 2026 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) has completed a major milestone of its water project, “Rehabilitation of the Water Supply System in Darayya, Rural Damascus”, implemented in collaboration with its Implementing Entity, The Eastern Mediterranean Institute (EMI).
The completed milestone includes the rehabilitation of one water well, maintenance works on five additional wells, site preparation, and the rehabilitation of the underground water reservoir.
The next major milestone of the project includes the installation and operation of a large-scale Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment plant and solar power system that will start in the next week.
Such works contribute to improving safe and reliable water access to residents in the area, as sustainable solutions are employed, thereby reducing their reliance on costly water trucking while improving their health and living conditions and resilience.
This project has a budget of EUR 1.98 million and is expected to directly benefit 150,000 residents over its duration of 12 months.
