Enhancing Access to Safe, Quality Dialysis Care in Syria

Building on the remarkable successes of its health projects across Syria, the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF), in coordination with its Implementing Partner, the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), is proud to launch a new project: “Enhancing Access to Safe, Quality Dialysis Care in Syria.” 

This initiative responds to the acute shortage of functional dialysis services in Aleppo and, for the first time, in Damascus, marking a significant step forward in expanding life-saving healthcare to more communities in need. 

Key objectives include: 

• Expanding equitable access to safe, high-quality, and sustainable dialysis services. 

• Rehabilitating and equipping dialysis units in Aleppo and Damascus. 

• Enhancing infection prevention, quality assurance, and staff capacity within dialysis care. 

• Providing around 18,000 haemodialysis sessions over 15 months. 

• Promoting community-level awareness and prevention of renal disease. 

Main activities will cover: 

• Rehabilitation of two dialysis units, including repairs to infrastructure and systems. 

• Procurement and delivery of essential medicines, consumables, and dialysis kits. 

• Training healthcare staff on dialysis care, infection prevention, emergency response, and medication management. 

• Developing clinical standards, patient care pathways, and quality indicators to improve efficiency and safety. 

With a budget of approximately EUR 926,000, the project is expected to directly benefit 250 patients per month and indirectly benefit around 1,250 individuals. Communities in both Aleppo and Damascus will also benefit from improved local healthcare services and awareness efforts.
