The SRTF Successfully Completes Two Interventions in Ar-Raqqa

Ar-Raqqa – Sunday, July 4, 2021 – The SRTF is pleased to announce the successful completion of two of its interventions in Ar-Raqqa. The first is the agricultural intervention, “Mechanization and Training Centers for Agricultural Equipment in Ar Raqqa District – Phase 1”, which established seven mechanization and vocational training centers (VTCs). A total of 245 people received training in finance, harvesters and tractors operation, mechanical repairs of harvesters and tractors, and metal welding. The centers, trained operators and mechanics will benefit a total of 3,000 farmers registered in the supported cooperatives through improved access to well-maintained agricultural equipment and machinery.

This intervention strengthened the role of farmers’ cooperatives in providing needed agricultural services to local farmers and ensured efficient operation, maintenance, and storage of agricultural machinery provided by SRTF. The targeted farmers started to see the positive outcome of the intervention through the availability of agricultural machinery and equipment they needed to cultivate, plant, and harvest their lands. Moreover, agricultural services were provided to the farmers in an organized manner and at reasonable cost through the mechanization centers. This intervention was successfully completed with 90% of the allocated budget, the surplus will be used in future interventions benefitting the Syrian people.

In addition to this intervention, the SRTF’s electricity intervention, “Rehabilitation of Electrical Transformers in Ar-Raqqa”, was successfully completed and closed. As a result of this intervention, thirteen electrical transformers centers and five aerial transformer stations were rehabilitated in five rural communities.

Additionally, two main hospitals in Ar-Raqqa benefited from this intervention and have access to improved reliable electricity; the hospitals, their staff and patients will benefit from being able to use medical devices and equipment in diagnosing and treating patients, with more confidence now, that electrical surges and outages will not affect procedures; around 300,000 individuals residing in the catchment area of these hospitals will be benefitting from this activity.

In total, over 17,144 households (around 102,810 people) benefited from improved access to reliable electricity, as a result of this intervention, which was completed with approximately 65% of the allocated budget, the surplus will be used for future projects that will lead to more stabilization in the target Syrian communities.
