The SRTF and MEHAD Sign Financial Agreement for Phase V of Health Project to Strengthen Primary Health Care in Deir-ez-Zor

Damascus - Thursday, 30 October, 2025 - The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) announced today the signing of a new financing agreement with MEHAD to launch Phase V of the ongoing health project, “Provision of Primary Health Care Services in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate.”

Building on the success of previous phases, this project aims to enhance access to quality primary health care services for vulnerable populations in Deir-ez-Zor. The initiative will continue supporting operations and service delivery at two Primary Health Care Centres (PHCCs) and one mobile clinic, ensuring the continuity of vital health interventions.

Services provided under the project will include maternal and child health care, prevention and management of communicable and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), mental health support, health awareness sessions, and nutrition services. The project will also cover essential diagnostic laboratory services and the provision of critical medications to improve patient outcomes.

As part of this phase, the SRTF will supply 10 NCD kits to five PHCCs. Each kit includes essential medications for chronic conditions such as hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, epilepsy, and chronic respiratory illnesses. Each kit is designed to meet the needs of approximately 10,000 patients over a three-month period.

In addition, the project will provide continued support for medical personnel, operational costs, and the procurement of essential medicines and medical supplies, further strengthening the health system’s resilience in the region.

MEHAD President, Dr. Ziad Alissa, stated: “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the SRTF, aiming to improve community members’ access to essential health care services. This project shows the determination and commitment of our organisations to such a vital sector during such critical times. We value being by the Fund’s side while we witness the positive impact of our collaboration evolving on the ground.”

The SRTF Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz commented, saying: This new phase reflects our continued commitment to improving access to essential health care services in Deir-ez-Zor. By sustaining and expanding primary health care delivery, we are ensuring that thousands of people receive quality medical care, medications, and support when they need it most. This effort is another step toward strengthening local health systems and restoring hope to affected communities.

This project will directly benefit at least 113,895 patients, their 569,475 family members, as well as over 937,271 community members indirectly, with a budget of EUR 1.24 million.
