Northern Syria Farmers Achieve Strong Wheat Yields with the SRTF Support
Syria –Sunday, 24 August 2025 – The SRTF is pleased to announce the successful completion of the 2025 wheat harvest season across Northern Syria, demonstrating continued progress in revitalising the region’s vital agricultural sector.
In Northern Aleppo, 1,990 farmers harvested approximately 3,980 hectares (HA) of irrigated land. Meanwhile, in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor, 1,064 farmers harvested 2,139 HA of irrigated land. This farmers supported this season produced around 20,750 MT of wheat, with an impressive average yield of 3.4 MT/HA.
These outcomes reflect the SRTF’s strategic focus on agriculture, a sector that remains critical to food security, economic stability, and sustainable livelihoods in Syria. Through the provision of essential agricultural inputs, including high-quality seeds, modern machinery, fertilisers, and advanced irrigation systems, the SRTF has enabled farmers to optimise water use, improve crop health, and boost productivity. Complementary technical training sessions further equipped farmers with the knowledge and tools to adopt more efficient and sustainable farming practices.
To date, the SRTF has launched 12 wheat support projects across Northern Syria, assisting around 16,800 farmers in cultivating approximately 44,000 hectares of farmland. This year’s expected wheat harvest of 120,000 MT will bring the programme’s total production to an estimated 465,000 MT since inception, with a combined market value of nearly USD 178 million. With an investment of around USD 46 million, the programme has generated nearly four dollars in economic return for every dollar invested, underscoring its vital contribution to food security and farmer livelihoods in the region.
The SRTF remains committed to supporting Syrian farmers in building resilient, self-reliant communities through innovation, strategic investment, and long-term impact.
The SRTF Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz stated: “This year’s wheat harvest marks a major milestone in our efforts to strengthen food security, livelihoods, and economic recovery in Northern Syria. When the programme began in 2018, it served just three communities and fewer than 350 farmers; today, it supports around 16,800 farmers across more than 60 communities, clear proof of its impact and scalability.
Through the provision of quality seeds, fertilisers, machinery, irrigation systems, and training, we have helped farmers boost yields, cut costs, and build resilience. Wheat is not only a staple food but also the backbone of rural economies and a foundation for stability. The SRTF remains committed to investing in agriculture as a pathway to self-reliance and long-term prosperity, and with a new phase approved, we will begin implementation in October to expand these achievements even further.”
