A Health Project Successfully Closes in Northeast Syria Leaving Positive Impact on Residents in the Area
Syria – Wednesday, 09 April 2025 – The SRTF announces the successful closure of, “Provision of Maternity and Paediatric Health Services at One Hospital in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate – Phase II”.
Over a period of around 10 months, this project has directly benefitted 52,931 patients through 109,617 consultations, and at least 288,100 individuals indirectly, including around 264,200 host community members and 23,900 internally displaced people, through increased access to basic healthcare services and the resulting enhanced health conditions and well-being.
Such efforts, in combination with supplying medical equipment, supplies, consumables, medication and laboratory equipment, and providing job opportunities for 180 individuals, capacity building training sessions to 19 medical personnel and health awareness and education sessions to parents, caregivers and community members, have promoted sustainable healthcare provision, strengthened the local health system and enhanced socio-economic stability.
A woman beneficiary receiving care at the hospital told the SRTF:
“Since the hospital has an incubator department and offers free treatments like natural deliveries and cesarean section operations, this really helped us. I came to the hospital to have a cesarean section because I couldn’t afford the high costs of private hospitals. I felt protected knowing the hospital is nearby and provides free services.”
Another woman shared:
“The doctor takes care of the patient, explains their condition clearly, and offers advice on what’s best for them. I feel reassured and confident in the doctors' skills here, knowing they will guide me toward what’s in the best interest of my health.”
A man receiving treatment also noted:
"The hospital provided job opportunities for many young people in the area, which helped improve their economic situation and contributed to boosting local market activity.”
The project provided and operated essential services at a hospital in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate, mainly delivering maternity and neonatal services, including outpatient consultations, inpatient consultations, emergency room services, malnutrition screening, infant and young child feeding consultations, radiology services, and pharmaceutical services, improving individuals’ access to free-of-charge medical and health services in the area.
Such services are continuing under another project that was approved last year, to ensure the continuation of provision of services and their long-term sustainability in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor governorates.
