Significant Progress Achieved Under Phase I of The SRTF’s Multi-Sector Project in Jisr Ash-Shughur

Jisr Ash-Shughur – Tuesday, 8 September 2026 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) announces the commencement of activities under Phase I of its new multi-sector project, “Multi-Sector Rehabilitation Initiative in Jisr Ash-Shughur,” with significant progress already achieved across the targeted sites.

At the first site, comprising of the outpatient clinics and doctors’ residences, and the second site, the agricultural school, the demolition of irreparably damaged structures, rubble and debris removal, the removal of unsafe remnants, cleaning of structural elements, and comprehensive structural and technical assessments, including additional required tests, have been completed. Detailed design drawings for these two sites, as well as for the third site—the automated bakery—have also been finalised.

Rehabilitation works have commenced at the outpatient clinics and doctors’ residences and the agricultural school. These works include flooring, façade stone cladding, plastering, electrical works, restoration of structural elements, plumbing and water installations, and the construction and rehabilitation of external fencing.

At the automated bakery, preparatory works are currently underway, including rubble removal, cleaning, the demolition of prefabricated structural elements, and the removal of damaged walls and floors.

Through these rehabilitation works, together with the planned restoration of water and sewage systems and the installation of solar energy systems, the project aims to restore critical public infrastructure and improve access to essential services. The initiative is expected to strengthen access to education and healthcare, enhance food security, create employment opportunities, and support early recovery and resilience, while contributing to the revitalisation of the local economy.

With a budget of approximately EUR 2.22 million, the eight-month project is expected to benefit approximately 450,000 people by improving living conditions, restoring essential infrastructure, and laying the foundations for sustainable, long-term recovery in Jisr Ash-Shughur.
