The SRTF Delivers Agricultural Equipment to Eight Agricultural Farmers’ Cooperatives in Deir ez-Zor Governorate

Deir Ez-Zor – Monday, September 6, 2021, - The SRTF is pleased to announce the delivery of 63 pieces of agricultural equipment under the agriculture component of its: “Rehabilitation of a Water Irrigation Channel and Pumping Stations and Agricultural Support in Deir-Ez-Zor ” intervention. The equipment was delivered by the Implementing Partner (IP) today. The IP will distribute the equipment as per the SRTF’s approved distribution plan.

 

The multi-component intervention has thus far completed two out of its three objectives: namely the rehabilitation of a water irrigation channel and two pumping stations, which is completed and currently awaits the final test run for the pumps; and on-farm assistance that includes agriculture equipment and inputs to farmers at eight farmers cooperatives which was completed with the delivery made today. The last objective of the project is the rehabilitation of irrigation water pump and water distribution network in eight communities which is expected to be completed in the coming few weeks.

 

The delivery of agricultural equipment consisted of eight combine harvesters, 11 agricultural tractors,  11 sets of implements, each set of includes four pieces of equipment, namely a pull-type offset disc harrows, chisel-type cultivator – tractor mounted, tractor mounted boom sprayer for agricultural chemicals and tractor mounted fertilizer and seed spreader. The delivery comes as part of the on-farm assistance to the farmers from eight farmers’ cooperatives to help them cultivate 2373 hectares of their agricultural land growing wheat and other crops.

 

With a total budget of EUR 8.7 million, and a six-month implementation period, the intervention aims to improve the living conditions of the residents of the targeted areas by enhancing their economic security and a sense of stability. It is expected that more than 23,000 farmers will directly benefit from this intervention and around 133,000 people to benefit indirectly in the targeted areas.
