The SRTF Successfully Completes A Cash-for-Work Project in North Aleppo, Boosting Jobs & Learning Environments

Aleppo – Sunday, 27 July 2025 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) is pleased to announce the successful completion of its Cash-for-Work (CfW) project in Northern Aleppo, implemented under the initiative "Rehabilitation of Schools in Rural Areas of North Aleppo". This project significantly improved educational infrastructure while creating immediate employment opportunities for unskilled and semi-skilled workers from vulnerable communities.

The project was designed to generate short-term employment through CfW activities while simultaneously enhancing access to safe, functional, and inclusive educational spaces. As a result, 195 members of the local community gained temporary employment, which not only boosted household income but also helped develop local skill sets.

Despite challenges, the project successfully completed the full rehabilitation of eight out of the originally planned ten schools. These improvements significantly enhanced safety, hygiene, and the overall learning environment for 5,453 students and 184 teaching and administrative staff. Furthermore, the delivery of essential educational assets—including solar energy systems, school furniture, and playground equipment—ensured the sustainability of these efforts and contributed to improved student well-being.

Beyond the immediate school communities, the project indirectly benefited approximately 29,160 people in surrounding areas, who now enjoy better access to quality educational services. This initiative exemplifies the SRTF’s commitment to delivering impactful recovery projects that meet urgent community needs while fostering long-term resilience.

This initiative reflects the SRTF’s continued commitment to supporting both recovery and resilience in Syria through projects that deliver long-term community benefits and immediate socio-economic impact.

Beyond physical infrastructure, the project directly impacted on the quality of learning environments;

The construction of additional classrooms reduced the number of students per class, leading to a better and more stable educational environment,” noted a female teacher.

A male teacher added, The school can now accommodate more students, and the installation of proper lighting and consistent electricity has made teaching easier and more effective, especially during winter.”

Parents also noticed positive changes:

A female parent shared, My children are happy at school after the renovations, and they love learning in the improved environment.”

A male parent noted, “The improvements created a safe place for children to learn and play, which positively impacted their happiness and willingness to attend school.”

The CfW component also had a transformative impact on participating workers:

A male beneficiary shared, “I helped my family secure some necessary needs, including winter supplies, and this brought some stability to our life. I also paid my son’s university fees without having to borrow money.”
Similarly, a female beneficiary said, This opportunity helped me avoid borrowing money or travelling to work in remote locations.”
