Germany's Remarkable Commitment: EUR 10 million Boost its Contribution to the SRTF to EUR 96.68 million

Amman – Thursday, 21 December 2023 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) is thrilled to announce a generous donation to its mission, as Germany reaffirms its commitment with a fresh contribution of EUR 10 million. This marks Germany’s eighth contribution to the SRTF, propelling its total support to an outstanding EUR 96.68 million and solidifying its position as the largest financial donor to the SRTF since its inception in 2013.

A spokesperson from Germany's Federal Foreign Office emphasized the enduring commitment, stating, "As one of the founding members of the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF), with this contribution Germany reaffirms its long-standing commitment to supporting the mission of the SRTF.

In the ten years since its founding, the SRTF has established itself firmly as a leading organization in addressing some of the most urgent needs of the Syrian people, creating opportunities, and fostering prospects inside Syria. Our collective goal in founding the Fund has been to provide incentives to end repression and work towards a more stable and hopeful future for the region. Much has been achieved in this regard, but much also remains to be done. Looking ahead, Germany will therefore continue to support the Fund in its important mission to actively contribute to working towards a peaceful future in Syria."

Expressing profound gratitude, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, the Director General (DG) of the SRTF, stated, "We are profoundly grateful for Germany's steadfast commitment and generosity, as reflected in their latest contribution now totalling 96.68 million euros to the SRTF. Germany’s remarkable support over the past decade has been instrumental in advancing our mission to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people and bring about stability and hope.” The DG added, “During its 10 years of operation, the SRTF has been able to enhance livelihood opportunities, promote food security, and foster economic stability thanks to Germany’s and other donors’ financial contributions. Our objective will continue to focus on helping Syrians rebuild their lives and future.”

With Germany's latest contribution, the SRTF continues to stand as one of the largest trust funds, accumulating a total of EUR 342.15 million from all 12 SRTF donor countries. The roster includes the United States of America, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and the Netherlands. Türkiye and Jordan are also esteemed members as host countries of the SRTF.

The SRTF remains dedicated to its mission of aiding the recovery and stabilisation of Syria, and with Germany's continued support, it looks forward to making a lasting impact on the ground.
