The SRTF Announces the Successful Closure of a Health Intervention in Northeast Syria

Northeast Syria – Thursday, 20 July 2023 – The SRTF announced the successful completion and closure of its Health intervention Support to Five Primary Health Care Clinics and Two Dialysis Centres in Deir-ez-Zor and Ar-Raqqa Governorates” in Northeast Syria, today.

This intervention supported five primary health care centres (PHCCs) and two dialysis centres through the provision of medication, medical consumables and the necessary equipment, with the aim of improving access to health services across the region and ensuring the availability of life-saving renal management through dialysis sessions.

The PHCCs provided services, including preventive and curative consultations, infant and young child feeding, communicable and non-communicable diseases, infection and prevention control and management of common infectious diseases. Additionally, psychosocial support was provided through individual and group sessions at each facility. Community health workers also offered the same services through household visits.

This contributed to strengthening the existing health system, while also enhancing people’s living conditions as job opportunities were provided for members of surrounding communities.

With a budget of EUR 1 million, this intervention benefited a total of 78,566 patients, mostly women and children, through consultations over a period of six months. Of those, 118 patients received a total of 3,426 regular and emergency haemodialysis sessions at the dialysis centres. Moreover, over 984,700 individuals in surrounding communities benefited indirectly from the services provided. This in turn, has improved the general health conditions and wellbeing of whole communities within the areas of operation.
