The SRTF Announces A New Wheat Delivery in the North of Aleppo Governorate

Turkey – Friday, 14 June 2019 The SRTF management unit (MU) announced the delivery of a soft wheat shipment to its implementing entity (IE) under project:“Complementary Project for Enhancing Food Security in the North of Aleppo Governorate – Phase II” today.

The MU noted that this shipment, containing about 840 tons, is part of an import contract for the supply of 15,000 tons of soft wheat to be delivered to project targeted areas in the north of Syria. Imported soft wheat is used to produce soft wheat flour, which is normally mixed with local hard wheat flour for the production of traditional Syrian bread. The IE will ensure milling of the imported wheat at SRTF-procured milling plants and distributes the wheat flour to bakeries in the governorate.

An expected 175,000 persons will benefit each month from the increased production of bread as a result of this project that comes at a total cost of EUR 6.2 million. Additionally, the project will generate employment opportunities for over 2,000 in the transport, service, and production industries, and it will also help sustain existing livestock populations through the availability of bran, a byproduct of wheat milling, as animal feed and with that leave a significant impact on the lives of all people in the project area.
