The SRTF Approves the Fifth Phase of an Agriculture Intervention in Ar-Raqqa

Ar-Raqqa – Wednesday, August 25, 2021 – In light of the success of the first four phases of the agriculture intervention, “Agricultural Support to Farmers in Ar-Raqqa Governorate”, the SRTF is pleased to announce the approval of the fifth phase of the intervention. This next phase will follow the success of previous phases in encouraging farmers to return to their lands and contribute to the overall food security and livelihood of the region.

In the previous four phases, which began in July 2018, a total of 5,729 farmers cultivating more than 18,790  hectares from 24 farmer cooperatives (co-ops) received support from the SRTF. In this phase, the intervention will focus on the provision of agricultural inputs and equipment, complimentary technical inputs, and technical capacity support.

During this phase, an additional 1,100 farms in six farmer co-ops will receive support, which will ultimately strengthen the farmers’ capacity and efficiency in using the provided inputs and result in higher yields and returns of labor and inputs. These six co-ops and the corresponding farmers are cultivating around 3,800 hectares of irrigated land.

Additionally, under the technical capacity support component, the intervention will continue to introduce cooperative administrative units (CAUs) to strengthen the administrative capacities of the co-ops. These CAUs will employ local women who will receive training in administrative practices.

This intervention has a budget of EUR 4.6 million and an estimated duration of six months. A total of 1,100 farms will receive support through this intervention, which will ultimately contribute to increased food security and livelihoods in the targeted areas.
