Progress Made in Support of Efforts to Achieve Food Security in Syria

Gaziantep – 5 January 2015 – Progress in implementation of an SRTF project, the Storage and Milling Support to the National Wheat Programme, was made today with the delivery of polyethylene sheets to cover wheat stocks in Syria.

Thirty-three tons of polyethylene sheets were delivered by the SRTF to the Syrian Public Establishment of Grains (SPEG) at a zero point on the Syrian Turkish border. The sheets were inspected upon delivery and later transported to SPEG’s warehouses inside Syria to be used to cover harvested wheat, protecting it from rain and other damaging elements.

The project is helping SPEG to meet the challenge of realizing food security in the project's selected areas inside Syria.
