The SRTF Announces the Launch of Solid Waste and Rubble Removal Activities in Deir ez-Zor Governorate – Phase II

Deir Ez-Zor - Sunday, April 26th, 2020 – As part of its second phase within the project: "Provision of Solid Waste Management Services in Deir Ez-Zor", the SRTF announced that work activities are underway to remove solid waste and rubble from a number of locations from the 90 sites that are approved under the project, the approved sites include sixty-five schools, ten water tanks, five hospitals and clinics in addition to ten other public buildings in the Deir Ez-Zor Governorate.


The activities are implemented by a non-governmental organization (NGO) and the scope includes the removal of debris from 21 villages along the eastern countryside of the governorate in addition to the removal of solid waste and transporting it to another location through the “Cash-for-Work” (CfW) activities offered by the project. The latter secure job opportunities for more local community members in the targeted areas.


With a total budget of EUR 2.7 million, it is expected that approximately 36,400 students attending sixty-five schools, and more than 381,197 residents of nine communities will benefit from the results of solid waste management and removal and debris, in addition to what is stated that more than 321 families are expected to benefit from the (CfW) opportunities that will be implemented by the project.

 

In a released statement, the SRTF Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz hailed the progress and said: “Despite many challenges that we face, the SRTF has been steadfast to continue to deliver and bring about change and stability to communities liberated from Daesh.”
