The SRTF Delivers Wheat Seeds & Fertilizers as part of its “Agricultural Support to Farmers-III” Project in Ar-Raqqa Governorate

Ar-Raqqa - Tuesday, 17th September 2019 – The SRTF announced the first of two deliveries today as part of its project: “Supporting Agriculture for Farmers - Phase III” in the northeast of Ar-Raqqa comprising of 600  tons of wheat seed and a similar quantity; 600 tons of compound fertilizers which was delivered to farmers in cooperatives in eight areas in the countryside.

 

The wheat seed delivered “Douma 1” is highly adaptive to weather conditions,  suitable for cultivation in the targeted areas and resistant to diseases such as yellow rust (Puccinia striiformis f.sp. tritici), also known as wheat stripe. Farmers receiving these inputs will use them to cultivate their lands in the upcoming winter season.


Commenting on the news, the SRTF Director General Eng. Hani Khabbaz said: “The SRTF seeks to stabilize and strengthen the local economy through providing essential agricultural inputs to promote sustainable agricultural practices which will contribute to improving the living conditions of people in rural communities recovering from the terror of Daesh."


At a total cost of € 9.17 million, the project is expected to benefit about 2,071 farmers with their families and associated workers and more than 7,103 hectares of land will be cultivated to enhance food security in the targeted areas.
