The SRTF Invests Eur 5.7 Million in Restoration of Water Supply Networks of Quneitra Governorate

Jordan – Thursday, 7 December 2017 – The Management Committee of the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) approved a new intervention in the water sector, the “Rehabilitation and Restoration of the Potable Water Supply Network in 14 Communities of Quneitra Governorate” Project, today.

At a total cost of approximately EUR 5.7 million, the new project aims to rehabilitate water-pipe supply and distribution networks, pumping stations, and water storage towers in the project targeted areas. It will supply the needed equipment and materials for water pumping stations, including galvanized iron (GI) pipes, different types of pumps (submersible, surface and dosing) with control panels, generators, transformers, electricity cables and accessories.

The project will also supply equipment and materials for works, maintenance, and overall implementation, including high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, skid steer loaders, excavators, and small trucks, pipe-laying equipment, plumbing tools, safety gear, motorcycles and water testing equipment. In addition, it will provide fuels, lubricants and spare parts for generators and pumps as well as furniture and IT equipment for the offices of the implementing entity.

While securing access to clean, safe and affordable drinking water for the entire population of more than 70,000 people of the 14 targeted communities, the project is expected to directly improve the health and living conditions of these beneficiaries. Indirect beneficiaries include all inhabitants of nearby villages due to anticipated improvements in water quality and overall public health in the Governorate.
